Suction Tees, or Mixing Tees as they are also known, utilize the suction created by passing a fluid through a nozzle to draw either solids, liquids, or gases into the branch connection of the device. Suction tees can be used in lieu of sparge tubes to mix steam and water. Used in this manner, suction tees are quieter and more efficient than sparge tubes. Liquids can be mixed with liquids by applying pressure at both the inlet and suction (branch) connections. Liquids can be aerated using suction tees, and solids can be drawn into liquid streams with suction tees. Ejectors are used to lift or pump liquids or evacuate gas filled vessels. The principal of operation is identical to that of the suction tee, but differences in nozzle design have optimized the ejector for pumping applications.
